Elm oyster growkit

Ah, the Elm oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ulmarius, the aristocrats of the fungi forest, with snow-white caps so plump and perfect you'd swear they were hand-painted by a woodland artist. They’re the type of mushrooms you might find in a fairy tale, or on a fine-dining plate, but soon, with a bit of Fungi-Fu, on your very own kitchen table.

Their flavor profile? Imagine the whisper of the forest on a dewy morning translated into taste – mild, versatile, and just begging to be the secret ingredient in your creamy sauces, golden gratins, or that family casserole recipe passed down through generations.

In the realm of mushroom cultivation, the Elm oyster is something of a sprinter. While other mushrooms are taking the scenic route, the Elm oyster is all about that 'ready, set, grow!' life. You'll bear witness to their swift journey from humble mycelium to bountiful harvest in under two weeks – they practically gallop out of the bag.

Our grow kits are lovingly crafted amidst the serene symphony of the Finnish countryside, in a lab where mushrooms are more a lifestyle than a livelihood. Picture the scene: sawdust and wheat bran coming together in a meaningful embrace, followed by a sprinkle of water to seal the deal – it’s a ménage à trois that would make Mother Nature blush.

After our substrate mix is neatly snuggled into grow bags, we take them on a trip through the sterilizer – think of it as a sauna for spores, a purification ritual that'd get a nod of approval from any Finnish mushroom shaman.

Then, post-steam, we introduce the chill factor, letting the bags cool down like they’re lounging by the lakeside, until it's time to play matchmaker by adding our in-house mycelium to the mix. It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship, and fungi fireworks are assured.

And that's all there is to it – no hidden ingredients, no secret chemical handshakes. Just pure, unadulterated fungal joy waiting to explode into edible wonders. Unfold the sacred scripture (that is to say, the instruction leaflet), bestow upon your kit a little tender love and care, and voilà, a buffet of Elm oysters will be yours to claim, turning your kitchen into the nearest thing to a Finnish forest feast. 🍄🌲👩‍🍳

Made to order

Mushroom mycelium is a fresh product and you will get the best results if the mycelium is as fresh as possible upon arrival.

Because of this we make all products containing mushroom mycelium to order.

The normal lead time of most products containing mycelium is 2-3 weeks.

The mycelium need some time to ”take over” or colonize the growth substrate once they have been manufactored.

Otherwise there is a risk that the mycelium would not be strong enough to survive the shipping process.

What is in the kit?

When we make the kit we use the cleanest possible ingredients and sterilize everything in an autoclave.

No nasty chemicals are used during the production.

Fresh mycelium

Rye grains

Sawdust

Wheat bran

Water

Fresh mycelium

We cultivate our own mycelium in house.

To make sure that the quality and freshness of it is a high as possible.

Rye grains

We use locally sourced rye grains that have been inoculated with fresh mycelium when making the kits.

The rye grains contains extra nutrition that boost the yields and help the mycelium colonize the substrate fast and easy.

Sawdust

The base of our grow kits consist of clean sawdust.

The mix differs a bit between batches but we mostly use hardwoods as birch, aspen and oak.

Wheat bran

To increase the yields from the kits even more we supplement them with wheat bran that is sourced locally.

If you want an grow kit without wheat it is possible. Just let us know before ordering.

Water

Did you know that Finland have among if not the best tap water in the world?

That is what we use in the kits.
